HEADS OF SCHOOL
Director of School
Dr. Rita Dickinson
In my 30 plus years of working in the classroom and in educational leadership, I have come to believe that children need a warm and supportive environment to thrive. Over the years it has become clear to me that the Country Day model most closely reflects the balance of personal and academic growth that I feel is so important to education.

Monroe Country Day School is designed to prepare your child, both academically and personally, for a lifetime of success. Our school model focuses on strong academic growth as well as a warm and supportive environment. We provide an atmosphere where students are free to be curious and foster a love of exploration. Guided by experienced teachers and surrounded by supportive classmates, our students enjoy the challenge of learning.
As students grow, they apply learned skills through hands on activities, in-depth discussions, and community service. This application of knowledge develops a strong understanding of the material being studied. Albert Einstein once quipped, “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” We believe that our students’ understanding is as important as arriving at the right answer. It is this understanding that equips students with the confidence and independence necessary for a lifetime of success.

As an administrator, I appreciate MCDS’s focus on hands-on, student-led, “learning by leading,” experiential approaches, as well as nurturing the multifaceted elements of leadership that benefit all children. I look forward to supporting the academic success of our students and enhancing programs that contribute to their social and emotional wellbeing and development. As such, I am committed to developing the breadth and depth of the opportunities we offer our students in clubs, activities, and electives as well as a rigorous curriculum. All these things are essential to the success of our children, and our school, and I intend to make excellent contributions to every aspect of the student experience.
